Domain and DNS
Your domain is your web address (yourcompany.com). DNS is the set of records that tells the internet where that address points: which server hosts the site, where email goes.
Why it matters for your business
The domain is the one piece of your online presence you must own outright, in your name, with your login. Lose control of it and you lose the site, the email and years of search history. A DNS mistake can take a site or email offline instantly.
In practice
A common mess: the old web agency registered the domain under its own account, and when the relationship ends the owner has to fight for it. The fix is to hold the registrar login yourself and share access.
