Retrieval augmented generation RAG
A way of giving an AI your own documents to work from. Before it answers, it looks up the relevant pages from your files and reads them, so answers come from your information rather than general memory.
Why it matters for your business
Out of the box, an AI knows nothing about your prices, your policies or your projects. RAG fixes that without retraining the model, which is slow and expensive. Update the documents and the assistant is current. It also cuts down on made up answers.
In practice
A cabinetry shop loads its warranty terms, finish options and lead times into the assistant. When a customer asks about a finish, the answer comes from the real spec sheet, with the source shown.
