Keyword and search intent
A keyword is the phrase someone types or says into a search. Search intent is what they actually want when they type it: to learn, to compare, to buy, or to find a place nearby.
Why it matters for your business
The same words can mean different things. "Kitchen cabinets" might be someone browsing ideas or someone ready to order. Matching your page to the intent behind the phrase is what turns a visit into a call instead of a bounce.
In practice
A cabinetry shop writes one page for "custom kitchen cabinets near me" (ready to buy) and a blog post for "how much do custom cabinets cost" (still researching), instead of one page trying to do both.
